State Food Minister D Kamaraj and State Minister for Cooperation Sellur K Raju held a review meeting with officials of both the departments to enquire about the rising prices of big onions in the market. Officials informed the ministers that onions were not sold at higher prices as reported in the media.
“Big onions are sold at Rs 45 per kilogram in farm fresh outlets, run by the Cooperation Department across the state, and around Rs 55 to 60 per kilogram in retail stores. The media reports claiming that big onions are sold at higher prices are not true,” the officials informed the ministers.
