Actor Vijay Sethupathi, who was selected for Tamilnadu governent's Kalaimamani award, was shocked when he was not presented the award last night. Sources say that though Vijay Sethupathi's name was there in the list, the invitation did not reach him on time leading to confusion. However there are speculations that the actor's alleged speech against Abrogation of Art 370 in Kashmir to a radio station in Australia recently could have led to the situation.
However exact reason is not known. In a radio interview with SBS Tamil Australia, the actor said, “It is against democracy. Periyar has already spoken about this. Can I interfere in someone else’s affair? One can show that they care about someone, but cannot impose their decisions on someone else. The move saddens me,” the actor said. The actor was in Australia to take part in the Indian Film Festival in Melbourne recently.
