Why MK Stalin postponed Hindi agitation?

The DMK has postponed the 20 September 2, anti-Hindi protest following a meeting with Governor Banwarilal Purohit, who on Wednesday assured that Hindi would never be imposed on Tamil Nadu. The principal opposition party also attributed its change of stand on Hindi (imposition) issue to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s clarification on the same.

Speaking to reporters, DMK president MK Stalin quoted the Governor as saying, “The statement of Union Home Minister was misconstrued. Hindi will not be imposed on Tamil Nadu whatsoever.”

“When we sought to know if the Centre would come forward to give the assurance, the Governor told us that he is a representative of the Centre and hence he was giving the assurance only on the instruction of the Centre,” Stalin reasoned.
