And when everyone thought Kamal Haasan's party will be contesting in 5 Augu by-polls to Vellore, he surprised everyone saying that MNM will not field any candidate for the election. party General Secretary A Arunachalam, in a statement, said the MNM is focused on contesting the state assembly election and bringing about a change in the government.Citing pending cases in the court regarding alleged cash distribution which led to cancellation of the polls, the party said the new schedule of the elections in Vellore has reduced the faith of the people on the Election Commission (EC).

'Under this situation it is vital to uphold the faith of the people. The Makkal Needhi Maiam is concentrating on the same. The Makkal Needhi Maiam is focusing on contesting the state assembly elections and bringing about a change in the government,' the statement said.
