The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced by-elections to four assembly constituencies in Tamil Nadu on May 19. The by-polls would be held for Sulur, Ottapidaram, Aravkurichi and Tiruparankundram Assembly seats. While the Sulur seat fell vacant following the death of ruling AIADMK MLA recently, by-elections to the other seats was not announced earlier by the ECI citing pendency of the cases Now that the all legal decks were cleared, the ECI decided to hold the bypolls and announced the dates.
The filing of nominations for the four seats would commence on April 22 with the issuance of notification. The last date for filing of nominations was April 29 and the scrutiny would take place the next day. The last date for withdrawal of nominations was May two and the polling would be held on May 19. The counting of votes would be taken up on May 23 along with the votes polled in Lok Sabha polls and bypolls to 18 assembly seats for which polling would be held on April 18.
