The DMK candidate and Durai Murugan's son Kathir Anand won the Vellore by-election by huff and puff. He could emerge winner by a slender margin of just 8000 votes. The defeat for AIADMK would actually give the party a lot of hope, Of the 38 constituencies that went to polls in April, the DMK-led front swept elections and won 37 seats, with the AIADMK managing to get a lone Parliamentarian.
The margin of defeat was very huge in many seats. In Vellore, TTV Dhinakaran’s Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) and Kamal Haasan’s Makkal Needhi Maiam did not contest this time. Many say DMK’s victory was mainly due to the anti-BJP mood. Also it is said that AIADMK managed to get good number of votes in many areas which was dominated by the DMK.
The AIADMK wpuld be happy seeing their performance. Consider 2021 Assembly elections, the party is on right direction, say AIADMK cadres.
