Vijayakanth returns to rousing reception

Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) founder-president and general secretary Vijayakanth today returned to Chennai from the United States, after getting medical treatment for two months.

He was accorded a rousing reception by DMDK cadres who had gathered from airport to his residence at Saligramam. They had come from all over Tamil Nadu and hailed their leader. "Thalaivar is back. He will make a strong comeback in politics too since his health is alright now," said Sathish from Villupuram. The 'Captain', as he is called by his supporters, went to the US along with his wife Premalatha for medical treatment. "He is fine now and he will be back to active politics," sources said. Recently, his party confirmed that it is holding talks with the Bharatiya Janata Party for alliance in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

Vijayakanth's brother-in-law and the party's deputy secretary L K Sudeesh, said, "It is true that we are holding talks with the BJP for the alliance." He also added that talks are being held by the DMDK with various other political parties too. "We are speaking with BJP, DMDK, and PMK. After the election dates are announced, we will officially reveal our alliance to the public,” he added.

Amid speculations that the AIADMK would partner with the BJP, DMDK and PMK, senior Minister O S Manian recently said an announcement on alliance would be made in 15 days.
