Campaigning for Vellore by-elections ends tomorrow evening. The elections would take place on 5 August. Businessman-turned-politician AC Shanmugam is the AIADMK candidate in the polls. The founder of the Puthiya Needhi Katchi, Shanmugam is also the chancellor of the Dr MGR Educational and Research Institute in Chennai. Contesting on the AIADMK’s two-leaves symbol, he is up against DMK Treasurer Durai Murugan’s son M Kathir Anand.
Campaigning was at its peak as DMK leader MK Stalin tourned the constituency extensively and campaigned. Chief Minister EPS and Deuty Chief Minister OPS also toured Vellore and sought votes for Shanmugham. During his campaign, MK Stalin mounted attack on the AIADMK government holding it responsible for failing to get exemption for the State from the entrance test to medical admission. On his part, EPS slammed Stalin of dyansty politics in DMK by appointing Udhayanidhi as youth wing leader.
