Even as Tamil Maanila Congress president G K Vasan denied merging his party with the BJP, his party members staged a protest in Chennai today, against false reports. Led by TMC youth wing head Yuvaraj, scores of TMC members staged agitatino. On Friday, Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K S Alagiri invited the TMC to join the Congress.
Followed by speculations that Vasan was planning to merge the party with BJP, Alagiri said in a statement, “For those who started their political journey in Congress – joining the BJP would amount to committing suicide.” Vasan dismissed Alagiri's invitation to return to the Congress, slamming him for taking seriously a newspaper's "irresponsible and malicious" report that claimed he (Vasan) was negotiating return to the parent party.
