Vaiko, 5 others set to be elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha

With Opposition DMK's stand by candidate N R Elango withdrawinghis nomination papers on Wednesday following acceptance of MDMK General Secrertary Vaiko's papers, all the six candidates in fray for the July 18 biennial elections to Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu, would be declared unopposed tomorrow. When the last date for withdrawals end at 1500 hrs tomorrow, Assembly Secretary K Srinivasan,who is also the Returning Officer, will announce that the six candidates--two each from the ruling AIADMK and the Opposition DMK, and one each from the PMK and MDMK--were electedunopposed to the Upper House of Parliament.

Those who would be declared elected were AIADMK's former Minister A Mohammed John andN Chandrasekaran, M Shanmugham, General Secretary of LPF and advocate P Wilson (bothDMK) and former Union Minister Anbumani Ramadoss of PMK, which was allotted one seat bythe AIADMK, and Mr Vaiko.There were doubts about Vaiko's papers being rejected in the wake of a Special court convictinghim for one year in a sedition case.
