The Election Commission of India has removed C Umashankar, a Tamil Nadu cadre IAS officer, as poll observer in Sidhi district of Madhya Pradesh following his 'faith-healing' activities. Action was taken against Umashankar, a 1990-batch officer, because he persisted with his faith healing despite being warned against it.
It is said that he was continuing with faith-healing activities at the place where he was officially staying despite being warned by election authorities against it. According to CEO-MP VL Kantha Rao, "A report was sent to the Election Commission of India (ECI) following a complaint against him, after which the ECI has removed him as general poll observer."
