With the ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam starting the distribution of application forms to those party members who are willing to contest in the Lok Sabha polls, it seems many senior leaders are keen to contest in the general elections. While Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan wants to contest from either Central Chennai or South Chennai, State Minister Pandiarajan too reportedly wanted to contest in the polls. Already, party coordinator and Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam's son P Ravindranath Kumar had filed papers on Monday expressing his interest to contest from Theni - his home constituency.
Amid specualtions that the AIADMK would forge an alliance with the BJP and other parties, the party has called for a meeting of its district secretaries on February 8. Sources said that during the meet to be held at the party headquarters at Royapettah in Chennai, Chief Minister and party joint coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister and party coordinator O Panneerselvam, would discuss with the district heads the AIADMK's alliance plans for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
"After the meeting, a formal announcement on the party's alliance will be made," sources added. On Monday, the party commenced its selection process of candidates for the Lok Sabha elections, with the issuing of application forms to aspiring candidates. At a brief function at the party headquarters, Palaniswami and Panneerselvam started the application issuing process.
Later, they had a meeting with top leaders of the party and discussed things including preparation of manifesto and forging aliance with like-minded parties.
