TN govt seek Rs 4,000 cr spl assistance from PM for corona relief

Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami today urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to support the state government with a special assistanceof Rs 4,000 crore for coronavirus relief measures. In a Demi-Official letter to Mr Modi, he said keeping inview the urgency of the tasks on hand to meet the challengesof tackling the COVID 19 pandemic and to support the state government financially, as it takes massive preventiveoperations and relieve the considerable hardship placedon the poor, he requested him to urgently consider hisrequest for special assistance of Rs 4,000 crore andrelated financial relief measures expeditiously.

Of the Rs 4,000 crore, he sought Rs 3,000 crores for the augmentation and strengthening of the health infrastructureand for essential equipment, medicines and for preventive public health measures at this crucial juncture as thestate has to prepare for a significantly higher case loadin the coming weeks and months, besides Rs 500 crore each towards MGNREGA wages and relief package for un organised sector workers to help them overcome their immediate hardship.
