15 students of a government school in selaiyur had been to Marina beach yesterday. Unfortunately Vinodh (14), Satheesh Kumar (14), residents of Tambaram and Kumar (14) from Guindy were washed away by huge waves. Following an alarm raised by the rest, locals rushed to rescue. Meanwhile Marina police reached the place. Fishermen were employed to trace them. Helicopter and Coast Guard police are also involved in the search.
A place of gloom descended in the families of those boys who are gone missing. Remember in 2017-2018, over 20 youngsters were washed ashore, say police. Though boards have been kept warning people not venture far in the sea and not swimming or bathing, youngsters throw safety to wind and dive in water. Locals say police should monitor the place and ensure those not obeying rules be punished severely.
