Steady increase in number of youth suffering from heart diseases: Expert

"There is steady increase in the number of people particularly young adults suffering with cardiovascular diseases in last few decades," said Dr K Ravindranath, chairman, Gleneagles Global Hospitals. Speaking at the launch of 24x7 Chest Pain Clinic and India’s 1st Primary Angioplasty Support Group, he said, "Almost 50 per cent of the affected patients arrive too late for appropriate treatment and the possibilities of saving life of the individual would increase if the patient receives treatment within one hour of the attack called the golden hour."

He said further: "Gleneagles Global Health City is the one of the premier institutes in Chennai which offers primary angioplasty round the clock and the Chest pain clinic which was launched today will enhance patient care by reducing time to treatment for patients suffering from Cardiac ailments."

Dr Gobu, Cardiologist, Gleneagles Global Health City, said, "People who had survived heart attack and who had undergone angioplasty are the members of the supporting group who will spread awareness on heart attack symptoms and on primary angioplasty. These members of the group offer the opportunity to talk with others whose lives have been affected by the similar ailments”.
