On New Year's Day today, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam M K Stalin visited the memorial of his father and party chief M Karunanidhi at Marina beach in Chennai and paid tributes.
Stalin was accompanied by his family members and party seniors, sources said. Meanwhile, Stalin has demanded a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the death of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.
He has said this in the wake of shocking charges made by Law Minister C Ve Shanmugam on Monday. "The Law Minister himself has made serious allegations. A thorough investigation by the CBI is needed," Stalin said. Talking to journalists in Villupuram, Shanmugam asked, “Why was Amma (former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa) not given Angioplasty? What stopped the doctors from giving treatment and who told them not to give Angio?”
Alleging that there was a mystery surrounding Jayalalithaa's death, the AIADMK strongman said, “If proper treatment was given to Puratchi Thalaivi, she was would have been alive today. Why wasn’t she taken abroad for better treatment?.”
He added: "Health Minister Vijaya Bhaskar, Health secretary Radhakrishnan and the then Chief Secretary Ram Mohan Rao should be taken into police custody and questioned for the truth to come out.” Coming down heavily on the family of Jayalalithaa's close aide V K Sasikala, Shanmugam said, "Why weren’t any of the Cabinet Ministers allowed to visit Jayalalitha. Only individuals from a particular family met Jayalalithaa at the time. Was that the family which ate idly and dosa worth Rs 1 crore?”
