Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam president and Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly, M K Stalin's old speech has landed him in trouble now. A video of his address at a wedding function, which is said to be two-year-old, has surfaced in the social media. In the video, Stalin was seen slamming Hindu marriages. "You know how a Vaideeha marriage happens. The bride and groom will not be sitting on chairs when the marriage is being conducted. They will be made to sit on the ground and next to them the priest or Iyer will be seated and he will conduct the marriage," he said.
Stalin added: "And how will he do it? He stokes a fire between the couple, there will be smoke coming from that pyre. The smoke will assault the eyes of the couple and then they will cry a little. Not just their eyes, the guests will also tear up. It is a sad situation. Then the priest will say some mantras. He will call kinnarar, Dhevars and 330 million Dhevars. He will call ishta avathars and some extra avathars to conduct the wedding. What is he saying? The couple won't know. The people who have come won't know and maybe if you take him aside, he will also say he doesn't know. But if you think about the inner meaning - our whole body will shake. The mantras will be so disgusting," he said.
Even as the video went viral on social media, many slammed Stalin and demanded apology. Hindu Munnani founder Rama Gopalan issued a statement hitting out at Stalin for his speech.
Americai V Narayanan said, "Unnecessary & uncalled for. The image of @mkstalin as a moderate & progressive leader will be affected by this. Sooner he gets out of the clutches of #DK #Veeramani's thought the better of he and TN will be. TN moving forward. Hope the LEADERS will not be left behind."Malavika Avinash said, "For those who don’t speak Tamil, this Mahagatbandhan hero is spreading falsehood, lies & rubbish about Hindu weddings to an obvious audience!Would he dare speak about other religions?"
