DMK president M K Stalin and PMK youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss among others have welcomed the Madras High Court verdict to quash the Tamil Nadu Government Order (GO) for acquiring lands for the Rs 10,000 crore eight-lane Salem-Chennai expressway Green Corridor Project.
In a statement, Anbumani said the state government should not go on appeal against the order. He also said he would file a caveat petition in the Supreme Court to protect the interest of the farmers. Anbumani said though the court has said that a decision on the project could be taken after eliciting the views of the farmers and getting the environmental clearance, the PMK's stand was that the project should be shelved in toto.
Stalin said the verdict has sounded a death knell to the AIADMK government led by Edappadi K Palaniswami, who was keen in implementing the project, for not respecting the sentiments of the farmers.
