Sri Lanka 99% secure: Sirisena

Sri Lanka is “99%” secure, President Maithripala Sirisena told select Colombo-based diplomats, and urged countries to lift the travel ban imposed following the Easter attacks.

The President’s Media Division (PMD) said in a statement: "Sirisena thanked Colombo-based diplomats from the UK, Australia, Canada, Japan, the US and European states for the intelligence expertise and cooperation provided by those countries." It added: "He expressed his gratitude to the international community for the cooperation and assistance provided to Sri Lanka at this time of need and urged them to continue to provide economic assistance and lift the adverse travel advisories issued to tourists."

Sirisena, who met Ambassadors and High Commissioners of the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, United States, Germany, Australia and the European Union (EU) at his official residence, said that most of the terrorists and suspects linked to the bombings had been arrested and a huge quantity of explosives and weapons had been seized.
