The Income Tax department has provisionally attached seven properties, which VK Sasikala had allegedly purchased using Rs 1,500 crore scrapped notes immediately after demonetisation, even as late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa was battling for life in hospital.
Immediately after the Centre scrapped Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes on November 8, 2016, Sasikala started buying companies used the banned notes during the window period allowed by the government for the people to use the demonetised notes. She did not register the companies in her name and let them remain in the names of respective owners. But all these firms were under her control as she was projected as the next CM after Jaya,” a well-placed source revealed.
