Three unidentified men fired bullets at two staff members of a Tamil Nadu State Marketing Corporation (TASMAC) liquor outlet at Chengam Perumuttum in Tiruvannamalai district.
Reports stated that the gun-wielding men opened fire at Shanmugam (40), the manager of the shop and at salesman Lakshmanan (42). Even as the TASMAC employees suffered injuries on their legs, the gang went to the cash safe and took the cash in the outlet. Then they left the spot on a two-wheeler, sources added. Rs three lakh was stolen by them, It is said that the gang members were wearing masks and hence their identity could not be established. With injuries, Shanmugam and Lakshmanan were admitted to the Tiruvannamalai Government Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.
Police have registered a case and are searching for the trio. "They have obtained some clues and have started hunt for the gang members," sources added. The incident of the gang using gun and shooting at victims to stage robbery has sent shock waves.
