Superstar Rajinikanth, in his address at the 50th anniversary event of Tamil magazine 'Thuglak' on January 14, had said, "In 1971, at Salem, Periyar took out a rally in which undressed images of Lord Sri Ramachandramoorthy and Sita -with a garland of sandal-featured and no news outlet published it." This statement was condemed by social reformer and in return they asked for apology.
On Tuesday, Rajinikanth said whatever he said was true and he stands by his statement.
"I read from what was printed in Hindu and Outlook. I didn't say anything out of imagination. I won't apologize for what I said ... I didn't say anything out of imagination. I'm saying what I saw and they're saying what they saw," Rajini said.
In this regard, Congress leader and actress Khushboo posted on her Twitter post, "Right or wrong, Rajinikanth is firm in his opinion and he speak honestly without fear."
Right or wrong, it's a personal perception n acceptance..but I am glad to see @rajinikanth Sir standing firm on his ground. What we need now is honesty..fear cannot be the rule. Speak..speak what your hearts says. Everybody will have an opinion n you cannot please everyone
