Reject Karnataka's Mekedatu project proposal: TN CM urges Modi

Strongly objecting to Karnataka's proposal to constructa dam at Mekedatu, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reject the Karnataka's proposal. In a Demi-Official letter to Modi, he sought his urgent personal intervention to deny permission to the proposal of Cauvery Neeravari Nigama Niyamita of Karnataka for grant of Terms of Reference for Environmental Clearance forMekedatu Balancing Reservoir and Drinking water project.

Stating that this action of Karnataka in seeking Environmental Clearance for Mekedatu Project was in utter violation of the Final Order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal and the Supreme Court judgment dated February 16, 2018,he urged Mr Modi to direct the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to outrightly reject the Karnataka's proposal. He said the Tamil Nadu Government has been conveying its strongobjections and has been urging the Centre to reject outright and return the Detailed Project Report of the Mekedatu project of Karnataka.
