Ramzan fast to commence tomorrow

The monthlong fast for Ramzan will commence on Tuesday, said Chief Qazi of Tamil Nadu Mufti Qazi Salahuddin Muhammed Ayyub. In a statement, the Qazi said, 'As the crescent was visible on Sunday night in Chennai and other districts Ramzan fast will commence on Tuesday, according to Shariat' Ramzan, the holy festival of Muslims is celebrated across the world.

The festival commences with the sighting of crescent immediately after the new moon day of Ramzan month. There was confusion among Muslims on the day of commencement of fast as many thought that the fast would commence on Monday but till Sunday night, the crescent was not visible. As the fast would commence on Tuesday, Ramzan would be celebrated 28 days after the fast commenced. According to Qazi, 'Ramzan will be celebrated in the intervening night of June 1 and 2'.
