The Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam has withdrawn the petitions filed against actor Rajini in the Madras High Court.
On January 14, Rajinikanth, addressed in the 50th anniversary of Tamil Magazine Thuglak's connecting readers event, were he said that Periyar had taken a rally with undressed images of Lord Ram and Sita, and that had been garlanded with footwear. A case has been filed at the Madras High Court on behalf of the Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam.
He said the petitioners should have approached the magistrate's court after giving police complaint and time have to be given for taking action on the complaint.The Dravidar Viduthalai Kazhagam said it would withdraw the petitions thereafter. The cases were dismissed following the withdrawal of petitions.

At the same time, the statue of Periyar in the roadside area near Kanchipuram has been damaged by unidentified persons. Police are investigating the statue's damage.
