PM-CM to inaugurate Chennai Metro's new services tomorrow

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami will jointly inaugurate the last stretch of the Chennai Metro Rail Project from AG-DMS to Washermenpet
of 10 kms. He will do this in Tirupur via video-conferencing. Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, Minister of State for Finance and Shipping, Pon Radhakrishnan, Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker, P Dhanapal will be participating at the event.

At Chennai Central Metro Station, Union Minister (Independent Incharge), Hardeep Singh Puri Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Minister for Fisheries, Personnel and Administrative Reforms, D Jayakumar, Minister for Industries, M C Sampath, will be participating in the function and will undertake metro ride post inauguration. In this connection, Minister Sampath inspected Chennai Metro Station today (09-02-2019). He inspected the Central Metro Station for the arrangements of inaugural functions of passenger services from AG-DMS to Washermenpet and discussed with Managing Director, CMRL, Pankaj Kumar Bansal., I.A.S, Directors, and Chief General Managers regarding inaugural function arrangements.

Recently, the Commissioner of Metro Railways Safety, K A Manoharan, along with his team, had started inspecting the underground stretch of Phase 1 of Chennai Metro Rail, from AG-DMS to Washermanpet. Sources said the inspection was successfull following which services will commence on the stretch, linking the northern parts of Chennai with other parts of the city.
This stretch in the Blue Line of the Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 1 will be the last section of the 45 km alignment.

Several civil, operations and system readiness namely OHE height and stagger measurement, Demonstration of fire hydrant at Ramp Area, Demonstration of TVS Jet fans, Ramp Sump pump Inspection and Overview, Measurement of Schedule of Dimensions (SODs), Gauge, level and clearance measurement at every 200m intervals, Demonstration ofPassenger Emergency Telephone (PET), Public Announcement (PAP) and Passenger Information Displays (PIDS), Lifts and Escalators, HV room and M05 room to name a few were inspected during the two day inspection.
