Petta, Viswasam witness grand opening, Rajini banner damaged in Chennai

The year's much awaited movies- superstar Rajinikanth's Petta and 'thala' Ajith's Viswasam- witnessed bumper opening during the early hours of today in theatres across Tamil Nadu.
Fans of 'thalaivar' and 'thala' made elaborate arrangements for celebrations and they did paal abishekams to the cutouts of their favourite stars, beat drums, staged dance, distributed sweets and burst crackers.

Festival mood prevailed in front of all theatres and fans said they thoroughly enjoyed the movies. "Thalaivar sema mass. Vintage thalaivar is back," said a Rajini fan.
"This is Thala Pongal and Viswasam is a festival entertainer. Thala rocks in two getups," said Mani, an Ajith fan. Meanwhile, tense moments prevailed in front of Rohini Theatre in Koyambedu when a banner of Rajini was damaged. Also, fans of Ajith and Rajini were involved in heated argument. But the situation turned normal soon.
Directed by Karthik Subbaraj and produced by Sun Pictures, Petta has Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Simran and others in important roles. The film which has music by Anirudh Ravichander has hit the screens in a big way in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. Helmed by Siva and bankrolled by Sathya Jyothi Films, Viswasam has Nayanthara, Thambi Ramaiah and Yogi Babu in key roles. Music is by D Imman and this is for the first time he has composed for an Ajith movie.
