Parole ends, Rajiv case convict Nalini back in prison

Nalini, one of the seven life convicts in the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, on Sunday returned back to Vellore Central Prison after the expiry of her 51-day parole. After the Madras High Court on Thursday refused to further extend her parole, she was brought back to the prison.

Prison and police officials brought her back to the prison from a house at Sathuvachari, where she was staying during the parole period, amid tight security yesterday. As police and prison officials came to escort her back to the prison, Nalini was given a tearful send off by her family members and relatives. When her plea to extend the parole further till October 15 to make arrangements for her daughter's marriage came up for hearing on September 12, a Division Bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and RMT Teekka Raman declined to extend it.
