According to reports, the central government has decided not to sell the imported onion and then sell it at a discount.
With the price of onions hitting Rs 200, tons of it were imported from Turkey and Egypt by the central government at the request of state governments to address the shortage. It had been priced at 55 rupees per kg. But people don't want to buy it, because it's four times the size of Indian onions.
This has resulted in the stagnation of 22 thousand tonnes of foreign onions. An additional 15 thousand tons are expected to arrive by the end of this month. It is said that the central government is planning to sell them at Rs 25 per kg and empty the reserve.
