Humour Monday - One ball two runs : Not just in WC, but Chennai 28 too

Cricket fever gripped everyone as England played New Zealand in the finals of World Cup last night. Eventually, New Zealand needed two runs in one ball and there was a run out. England won the trophy. It was a shocking event for sport-lovers. A close match. For cinema lovers in Tamilnadu, it was not new. Remember a few years ago, they saw the same scene. Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu's cricket film Chennai 28 saw a similar scene in climax in which Premji Amaran was shown batting in the crease. The team needed two runs in one ball and what happens then was a unforgetful comedy. It is what we want to recall in this comedy Monday.

A die-hard cricket lover, Venkat Prabhu popularised gully cricket in the movie. A sports comedy film, it featured Jai, Shiva, Premji Amaran, Aravind Akash, Nithin Sathya and newcomers Ajay Raj, Ranjith, Vijay Vasanth, Prasanna, Inigo, Karthik and Arun in the lead along with Vijayalakshmi, daughter of National Film Award-winning director Agathiyan, and Kristine Zedek, making their acting debut as well.

The film was produced by SPB Charan along with JK Saravana, a Singapore-based award-winning producer. The film's music was by Yuvan Shankar Raja. Chennai 28 was the story of an underdog team making it top finals in a torunament. CRicket ad fun related to sport formed the crux. It even saw a sequel made to it.
