Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his visit to Tirupur on Sunday, came down heavily on the opposition parties, especially the Congress.
Adddressing a public meeting, he asserted that the NDA government is committed to equality of opportunity and said social justice was not an mathematical equation, but an 'article of faith' for BJP-led NDA. Stating that equality of opportunity is the committment of the NDA government, he said, "That is why the government brought a Bill to ensure 10 per cent reservation for the poor of the general category this year."
Hitting out at Congress leader P Chidambaram, he said, "There was a very wise Minister from Tamil Nadu. You know who I am talking about? The Recounting Minister. The man who thinks all the knowledge in the world is there only in his brain. In his typical arrogance, he said, why is the middle class so worried about price rise? They buy such expensive ice cream and mineral water. Mr Recounting Minister, middle class does not need the taunts by you and the Congress. They have rejected you and will continue to do so."
He said the Congress ignored the nation's security during its tenure and alleged it was associated with several scams in the defence sector. "From the seas to the skies, the Congress has several scams associated with the defence and in the process the party did not allow the modernisation of defence forces for long years that they were in power," Modi added.
