Modi hails Abhinandan, says every Indian proud about TN pilot

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Kanyakumari on Friday, said every Indian was proud that the brave Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman who was taken captive by Pakistan hails from Tamil Nadu. He said this after he laid the foundation stone of a railway line between Rameshwaram and Dhanushkodi. "I am proud that India's first woman Defence Minister is from Tamil Nadu," he added, pointing out to Nirmala Sitharaman.

Modi, who also flagged off Tejas, described it as the fastest train to link Madurai and Chennai in Tamil Nadu. "This is one of the most modern trains and is a great example of 'Make in India' having been manufactured in the Integral Coach Factory of Chennai," he added. Observing that people's choice in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls was between two sides (BJP-led NDA and Congress), Modi said the 130 crore Indians were his family and would live and die for them.

Coming down heavily on the Congress and the DMK, Mr Modi referred to how the DMK got cabinet berths after the 2009 polls, and said the Ministers were not selected by the Prime Minister, but were chosen over phone by those who were not in public service. "There was bargaining for Minister posts", he added.
