Medium of instruction upto Class-5 should be in local language or mother tongue : VP

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturdaysaid it was essential to make the medium of instruction, at leastupto Class 5 in the local language or mother tongue to make educationinclusive and universal. ''Such a step will help young minds to grasp concepts easily'', hesaid, at the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of philanthropist, Dharmamurthi Rao Bahadur Calavala Cunnan Chetty here.

Stating that the Government was in the process of finalizing the NewEducation Policy, he said it's vision was to provide “an India-centrededucation system that contributes directly to transforming the Nationinto an equitable and vibrant knowledge society, by providing highquality education to all.

The draft Policy encourages philanthropic institutions in the fieldof school education, he added. It said “Private philanthropic schools must be encouraged and freedof regulatory overload”.
''It is a commendable objective that must be pursued by all thestakeholders in education with all earnestness, Naidu said.
