Kamal not to contest civic polls, says target is 2021 Assembly elections

Hours after actor Rajinikanth's Rajini MakkalMandram said he would not support any party, Actor-politician and Makkal Neethi Maiam (MNM) Founder Kamal Haasan today announced that his party would not contest the December 27, 30 Local body polls.

He said his target was to come to power in the 2021 Assembly polls.

In a statement here, Kamal said ''the MNM has now become a people's force and the sweet truth is that those who had criticised us yesterday has now become our supporters today and started enquring about our well being''.

Stating that the local body polls would not be a full-fledged people's test, he said the progress to be made by MNM in the polls would be very little.

''The goal of the MNM is to bring about a change and getting it in bits and pieces in instalments will not be an achievement'', he added.

Noting that MNM's victory strategy was not money power, Kamal said straightforwardness and people's strength would be the key to success.
