Plastic bags in huge quantity were seized from Hotel Saravana Bhavan's Vadapalani restaurant by officials of Food Safety department. According to reports, 1,500 kg plastic bags were seized. This action has come weeks after the Tamil Nadu government implemented plastic ban in the State. Meanwhile, Income Tax raids continued at Saravana Stores, Perambur-based Revathy group, G Square and Lotus group for the second consecutive day today. Sources said Rs 15 crore cash was seized during the searches.
The raids were taking place since Tuesday morning at a total number of 74 places in Chennai and Coimbatore. It is learnt that the searches are being conducted following suspicion of tax evasion. "Only at the end of the raids, the outcome can be revealed," sources said. Lately, the Income Tax department has been conducting raids at various business establishments in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu.
On 3 January, the Income Tax department raided a number of popular eateries in Chennai and other parts of the state, including Saravana Bhavan, Grand Sweets & Snacks and Hotbreads.
The raids took place at 32 restaurants across Tamil Nadu including the head offices, houses of owners and restaurant branches. More than 100 I-T officials were part of it.
