HC stays TNPCB order

The Madras High Court has stayed Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board's decision to set up crusher units within one kilometer distance. It was said that due to this crusher units on highways, main roads, near temples and schools, there are lots of pollution. Taking this into account. Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board announced restrictins and passed an order stating that they should not be allowed to operate within 500 metres of distance from these places where people gather in large numbers. However in July this year, the pollution control board relaxed these norms.

However, a PIL was filed by one sampath in Madras High Court against this order. He alleged in his petition that the order to relax was passed without making environmental survey and based on minister's suggestion.

Hearing the petition, the court ordered sending notice to Tamilnadu Pollution Control Board within four weeks and till then stayed his recent order on setting up of these crushers.
