HC refuses to stop Kamal Haasan's campaign

The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court has refused to issue a stay order on the by-election campaign of Makkal Needhi Maiam founder-president Kamal Haasan.

It quashed a petition filed by one Saravanan in this regard. Cases have been filed against Kamal across the country over his “free India’s first extremist was a Hindu” remark.
After a two-day break to campaigning, the actor-politician on Wednesday said he had only spoken about what was a ‘historic truth.’ Slippers were hurled towards a vehicle from which Kamal Haasan was addressing an election meeting in the Tirupparankundram Assembly constituency on Wednesday evening.
