Gold prices zoomed past all previous records to set a new peak at Rs 25, 032 per sovereign today. The rising price of yellow metal has upset customers. Says a family who had been to a jewellery shop in Chennai, 'This Thai month is auspicious to buy gold for families that have wedding in the coming months. Sadly the price is so high that we cannot buy the quantity we want.' The gold price in international markets too are on the upward swing.
'The upward swing is not good. For middle class families buying gold will become a dream. Sadly in our tradition, gold has become an omnipresent thing for any occasion', said a senior citizen in T Nagar. Meanwhile shop-owners say that they don't foresee prices coming down in the coming days.
