Top political leaders of Tamil Nadu, including Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami and DMK president M K Stalin, have reacted to the union interim budget. Palaniswami welcomed the interim Union budget, and said it is good and would help improve the livelihood of the poor and common people "I congratulate Piysh Goyal. The budget has met the expectations of the farming sector, middle class and the housing and construction industry," he said.
Welcoming the government's vision for the next decade, the CM also lauded the assured income support to the small and marginal farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi.
Stalin said the interim Budget presented by the interim Finance Minister Piyush Goyal on Friday will end up as a bad dream for Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as it was only an attempt to lure voters, and was rather an election manifesto.
The Leader of Opposition in State Assembly said though the announcements for the farmers and the income tax rebate for those in the Rs 5 lakh slab was to be welcomed, the timing of the announcement, the money to be given to them, was an attempt to entice the farmers who had begun deserting the BJP. He added: "This is an attempt to try and cross the shore using their help with such announcements ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls."
