Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami inaugurated tertiary treatment reverse osmosis (TTRO) plant at Kodungaiyur. Speaking at the event, the CM said the ground water level has considerably increased now after the recent rains.
The sewage treatment plant has been constructed at a cost of Rs 348 crore and is expected to treat 45 million litres of water everyday. 'As part of this scheme, another treatment plant with the capacity to treat 45 million litre sewage is getting ready at Koyambedu. This work will also get over soon. The recycled water will be supplied to industries which will result in the saving of 40 million litre water. When the new plant at Koyambedu becomes operational about 20 per cent of the City's sewage will be treated and reused making Tamilnadu the number one State of treating and reusing sewage water,' he added.
Palaniswami also informed that the drinking water supply to the city will be increased in the coming days as the Krishna river water from Kandaleru has reached the Poondi lake.
