A man and an elderly woman were killed and another woman sustained injury after a car driver, who was under the influence of alcohol, ran over them on CTH Road at Villivakkam. The incident happened around 7 am when Sarasa alias Saroja, 65, of Annai Sathya Nagar, was walking on the road near Padi Overbridge in Villivakkam.
The car rammed into her and two others — Adhilakshmi, 50, and Mohan alias Madhangopal, 45. These two were standing near a tea shop when they were run over. A case has been registered under IPC 304(a) for culpable homicide. As per National Crime Records Bureau’s (NCRB) 2015 report, 93 deaths and 568 injuries due to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs have been reported from Chennai.
