The main opposition party in Tamil Nadu, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, today started issuing applications to aspiring candidates wishing to contest the Lok Sabha elections and the bypolls to 21 Assembly seats. The filled-in applications, along with a payment of Rs 25,000, for both LS and Assembly tickets, should be submitted to the party headquarters between March 1 and 7.
The amount of Rs 25,000 would be re-imbursed to those who had sought tickets in Lok Sabha constituencies and Assembly seats allotted for the alliance partners. In a statement issued on Saturday, the party said that forms for both are priced at Rs 1,000 each and the applicants will also have to pay Rs 25,000 with the forms, which should be submitted at the party headquarters between March 1-7.
As per the statement, application fees will be refunded to those applicants who had submitted the forms to contest from constituencies allocated to alliance partners. The DMK had already signed seat sharing pacts with the Congress (10 constituencies) and the Indian Union Muslim League (one seat), while it is holding talks with parties such as the Vaiko-led MDMK and Thol Thirumavalavan's Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi among others.
