DMK, allies stages walk out, boycotting Governor's address

The main Opposition DMK today staged a walk out and boycotted Governor Banwarilal Purohit's customary New year address to the State Assembly after making a vain bid to raise some issues.Soon after the House commenced at 1000 hrs with ''TamilThai Vaazhthu'' and when the Governor started his address, DMK President and Leader of the Opposition M K Stalin and his party members rose to raise some issues, including the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).

But Stalin was not given a chance to speak and theGovernor sought to pacify him in vain.Amid shouting of anti-CAA slogans, Stalin led his party members out of the House.DMK's allies, the Congress and the IUML also followed suit. Later, talking to reporters, he said the DMK and its allies staged a walk out of the Assembly and boycotted the Governor's address as the State's loan component touched a new high, no industrial development, no new jobs.He also said the ruling AIADMK had betrayed the Sri LankanTamils living in the state and the minorities by supporting and voting in favour of the CAA posing a threat to secular fabric of the country.He also said the Governor was yet to act on the State Cabinet's recommendation on release of the seven life convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case.
