DMK, AIADMK welcome EC move to cancel Tiruvarur bypoll

The Election Commission of India cancelled the January 28 bye-election to Tiruvarur Assembly constituency. It was welcomed by various political parties The ruling AIADMK said it was not feared of facing the elections. Ministers D Jayakumar, R B udhayakumar and R Kamaraj said, 'we are prepared to face the elections and that is why we have said that the AIADMK's candidate will be announced today'. 'Whenever the bye-election is held, the AIADMK will face it and win by a big margin'', they added.

DMK leader Stalin said everyone would welcome it as holding of bypoll would impact the cyclone relief works, which were not yet completed. Apart from impacting the relief works, it would also increase anger of the people and create an anti-polling mood, which would definitely not foster  democracy, he said.  Welcoming it, State unit BJP chief Tamilisai said the need of the hour in Tiruvarur was relief and not election.
