True to exit poll predictions, the Opposition DMK-led Secular Progressive Alliance (SPA) in Tamil Nadu was heading for a big win, having established handy leads in both the Lok Sabha and Assembly bypolls, as counting of votes continued on Thursday. Trends showed that DMK was leading in 36 of the 38 Lok Sabha seats, for which single phase elections were held on April 18 (Vellore elections rescinded), while the ruling AIADMK was leading in two seats.
The DMK-led alliance was leading in 36 constituencies (DMK 18, Congress-8, CPIM- 2, CPI-2, VCK-2, IJK, MDMK, KDMK, IUML-1 each).
