Covid: Frontline workers salary pending in TN, made to work long without break

The story of frontline workers in Tamilnadu has been a sad saga especially this third wave of the pandemic. Many allege that for frontline workers fight Covid outbreak across Tamilnadu salary has been credited only till December. Sadly only a few workers in select districts received their salary.

Many districts saw workers still not credited salary for past several months. They allege that even for deepavali we didn't get salary and we are afraid that even for Pongal we will not get our monthly remuneration.Adding to their problem is that their duty schedule is 12 hours a  duty without  any week off.A few allege that during last wave of covid they had free accommodation, free food and free travel by vehicle arranged by Government. Also for Covid Care Centre duty during last wave, they had 7 days duty and 3 days of quarantine. But things this time.

There is no food, accommodation, vehicle or weekly off. On condition of anonymity, a worker said, for my work in Dharapuram Municipality I had to travel 80kms per day. Sadly, few women workers need to travel 100 kms every  day for duty.He adds, 'As we don't have accommodation and quarantine, we go home everyday.. Our parents are highly susceptible to our infection and may infected by covid'.

Thiruppur workers in trouble Worst is the case of workers in Thirupur. Even complaints from a few in Thiruppur to CM Cell yields no result. Somehow the information about those who lodge complaint comes to the notice of Tiruppur DDHS Office and senior officials threaten the frontline workers not to lodge complaint or otherwise strict action would be taken against them. Those working in Thiruppur ate clueless what to do and they suffer a lot.
