Court fines Rohini theatre for selling tickets in high rate

Following a petition filed by an activist Devarajan, a Consumer Court has fined Rohini Theatres with a sum of Rs 15000 as fine for selling tickets at higher rate during festive occasions.

A petition was filed by Devarajan, who alleged that he had to pay more that the rate prescribed by the government to buy ticket and watch a movie at Rohini theatre during a big release recently. He wanted the court to order refund of money and also compensate with Rs 50000 as he suffered emotional disturbance because of the huge cost.

Hearing his plea, the court ordered Rohini Theatre to pay 10,000 as fine and additional Rs 5000 for mental trauma the petitioner suffered. It also warned the theater not to sell tickets in higher rates.
