Counting of votes for Local Body polls begins

The counting of votes for two-phased rural local bodies polls was held on December 27 and 30 in Tamilnadu began this morning amidst tight security.
There are about 315 counting centers across the state and tight security has been deployed at all the centers.Barring the nine newly formed local bodies, the elections were held in two phases in 27 districts.
Instead of Electronic Voting Machines, ballot papers in four different colors were used in the poll.Going by the Tamil Nadu State Election Commission’s statements, the first phase saw polling of 76.19 percent, while the second phase saw 77.73 percent.As many as 2.31 lakh contestants participated in the polls for 91,975 posts.
The elections are being conducted for the posts of  Gram Panchayat Ward member, Gram Panchayat President, Panchayat Union ward member, and District Panchayat Union Ward member.
As per the latest trends, DMK has managed slight lead in reports pouring in so far.
