Contempt case: Court notice to Times Of India

The Madras High Court has ordered issuing notice to Times Of India for contempt of court in a case filed by a Kovai- based contractor Senthil & Co. They posted the next hearing of the case on 15 March. It may be recalled that Senthil &Co had filed a case against the newspaper after it carried alleging that all government contracts are awarded only to Senthil & co on 6 February 2018. They even sought RS one crore defamation. Hearing their plea, Justice Sathish Kumar passed an interim order stating that no article should be carried without getting response from Senthil & Co.

However showing disregard to judgement, the newspaper carried an article on 14 December 2018 stating 63 lakh worth contract was awarded to the firm. They based it in a report by Arappor Iyakkam. A petition was filed by Senthil & Co alleging that the newspaper has made contempt of court by publishing the article without asking them. The petition came up for hearing today before Justice Sathish Kumar. He ordered to   issue notice to Times Of India for contempt of court. He posted the next hearing of the case on 15 March.
