Coimbatore recieves award for Conserving Environment

The city corporation on Friday recieved an award from the minisistry of Housing and Urban Affairs for conserving the environment by installing two solar power plant in the city with the capacity of one megawatt each.

Corporation commisioner Sravan Kumar Jatavath recieved the award comprising of 5lakh rupees cash pize and a certificate at a function held in Vishakhapatnam.

The award ceremony was organized by the Ministry to acknowledge the excellence of cities chosen for the smart city project in areas such as water management, good governance and the conservation of the urban environment, among others.

The first plant at Ukkadam, which was set up at a cost of Rs 5.5 crore, has 3,168 panels with a capacity of 320 watts each, which was inaugurated in March of last year. Construction is underway at Kavundampalayam to install the second solar power plant.
